Shannon O'Hearn
Intern
Hi everyone! I am Shannon O’Hearn, a master’s student at Old Dominion University. I am currently working on earning my M.S.Ed in Clinical Mental Health at ODU. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from ODU as well.
In my sessions you can expect me to show up as my authentic and weird self. I hope to provide a warm, comforting, and safe space for you to be able to express thoughts and emotions. I have a passion for those who are in the LGBTQ+ community and minorities but everyone is welcome here! I believe creating a strong, nonjudgemental, and supportive counseling relationship is necessary for our work to progress. I see myself as a guide in your life journey instead of an expert directing your treatment. We will collaborate in identifying goals and treatments to create a unique therapeutic journey made for you. My ultimate goal is to guide, teach, and empower you until your goals are met. I do this by working with you to find things that work for you, in the hopes that you can learn to use them one day without me. I use an integrated approach that combines parts of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, person-centered
therapy, and more. A little about me I identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. I am Chamorro (Indigenous peoples of Guam) and White. I enjoy gaming, reading, cooking, and baking. Some of my favorite games are Stardew Valley, Sims 4, The Last of Us Part 1, Baldur's Gate 3, Dungeons and Dragons, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Some of my favorite book genres are fantasy and mystery. I also have a 5 year old hound mix dog named Rosemary, she is a little anxious like me. Overall, I really look forward to the privilege of working with you. It is an honor to be a part of your journey.
