It’s really hard to exist sometimes, and that’s not your fault. You’re trying to survive while navigating systems that prioritize profit over addressing your needs that they claim to meet, and you have always tried to do the best you can with what you have available to you. Even when it hasn’t been easy, you have made it through every single time. That demonstrates profound strength and resilience. Sometimes the adaptive strategies that allowed you to make it this far turn into maladaptive patterns that no longer meet the needs that they were initially designed for, and instead they start to function in ways that hurt you. Sometimes the ways you have made it through before aren’t working anymore, and you’ve run out of ideas for where else to turn. You have spent so long trying to protect yourself in the ways you need to survive; it is okay to feel hurt, angry, exhausted, overwhelmed, hopeless, or anything else you may be feeling right now. Looking for support in working through all of the thoughts, feelings, patterns, and experiences that are impacting you today makes so much sense. It can be so hard to take the step of reaching out for help, and there is no judgement here.
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all, and neither is my approach to this work. You are the expert on your own experience, and my role is to support you – and with consent, sometimes challenge you – as we collaborate on a journey towards your goals. In our work together, I will likely individualize your care through integrating different elements from a variety of modalities and theoretical frameworks; you can learn more about the modalities that I draw from below. Overall, my approach centers rapport building through collaboration, curiosity, laughter, imagination, empathy, and creativity. I believe deeply in the power of providing therapeutic corrective experiences, and my hope is that the space we create through our work together will empower you to embrace showing up as your full self and experience feeling safe, heard, and affirmed. You deserve to have a space where you can bring every part of yourself without judgement or shame, and I believe building that space together creates an opportunity for the most powerful healing and growth.
As a disabled, chronically ill, neurodivergent ambulatory wheelchair user and a genderqueer lesbian, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to exist in a world that isn’t designed for you. I know the grief that comes with the realization that your life is never going to look like the life you had imagined for yourself, and I know the pain that comes with feeling like your own body has betrayed you. I also know the freedom that comes with embracing your full self, building a community that supports every part of you, and creating a life that is nothing like anything you had ever imagined – but somehow so much better than you knew was possible. Prior to beginning my internship with Phases, my work experience included work in inpatient psychiatry, disability services, and HIV care. I believe in the principles of Health at Every Size, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, sex positivity, and whenever it is safely possible, non-carceral care. I have experience supporting clients with complex trauma, disordered eating, neurodivergence, chronic illness, personality disorders, suicidality, and self-harm, and I particularly enjoy working with members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ and disabled communities. I have completed the foundational course for CAMS: Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality. My professional affiliations include GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality and WPATH: World Professional Association for Transgender Health (pending membership).
If you would like to connect further about working together, I would be happy to offer a brief consultation call to discuss how I may be able to provide support towards your goals. I care deeply about the work that I do, and I would be honored to walk alongside you through wherever your journey leads.
