Alex Eddy
Intern
My name is Alex and I use They/She pronouns. I have a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from VCU and am currently working on my Masters in Counselor Education on the Couples and Family track at VCU! Don’t let my track fool you, I love individual counseling too!
I have an interest in narrative therapy, person centered therapy, existentialism, and CBT. I specialize in LGBTQ+, Donor Conceived, poly/ethical non monogamy, depression, anxiety, kink, and chronically ill individuals (although, if none of these describe you and you still want to work together- lets do it!). I am also a HUGE fan of mindfulness and wellness practices, if you enjoy them, or want to get into a wellness/mindfulness routine I’m more than happy to work on that with you! In my classes I’ve been told I have a straight forward approach to talking with clients (and I agree), so if you want a counselor who doesn’t talk around problems and is direct- I’m your guy!
A little bit more about me:
I’m a homebody and love reading and video games! I’m very chill and go with the flow so if you ever need to reschedule or switch from in person to online I am more than happy to work with you. I am a Donor Conceived Person and know that while this is a small group of people- we need more who specialize in our care and that’s what I intend to do. I am queer and chronically ill (POTS & EDS) and have an interest in helping others going through similar situations.
I believe strongly in self expression and being unapologetically yourself. Phases key phrase “weirdos for weirdos” really resonates with me as I have always been called weird and now wear it proudly. As someone who is chronically ill, I also strongly believe in being comfortable- if we’re meeting in person don’t feel the need to dress up if you don’t want to! If you want to sit on the floor, I’ll join you! If you want to do crafts while we talk, I’ll join in!
For those interested in tele-health, you’ll likely get to see one or more of my three cats in the background of my video (Sammich, Gunter, and Shadow).
